Request to change date of birth

Hi all, a family member will soon be eligible to apply for citizenship and we are not sure how to handle her date of birth change request. When she immigrated to Canada, her passport only contained the month and year of birth, not the day (e.g. January 1980). Based on this, the date of birth on her COPR was input as 1/1/1980, and this carried over to her PR Card. She used her correct date of birth in her application and even provided a letter of explanation and her birth certificate, but apparently when she raised it with the officer at the airport, she was informed that the date on COPR must follow the date on her passport, which was incomplete to begin with.

This year she managed to renew her native passport and it now displays her correct date of birth, so she is thinking of getting her date corrected in COPR and obtaining a status verification letter, then requesting to change the date of birth in the citizenship application.

Personally I agree on this approach, however her friends brought up that this will cause the application to become non-routine and will delay it, and that she should instead apply with the date of birth on her COPR and PR card, and correct afterwards.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Would appreciate your thoughts? I have offered to book her a consultation with an immigration lawyer for advice, but would appreciate insights from those who went though a similar situation. Thank you!
