Request from IRCC asking for Victorian License

Hi all,

Hoping someone can shed some light on this for us...

I am a Canadian and sponsoring my partner (Australian) for permanent residency: we are applying from Australia so Outland application.

My partner and I live in Western Australia, however, briefly moved to Melbourne (Victoria) for work. We were in Melbourne for a total of 9 months before moving back to Perth (WA)(where we live now).

While in Victoria, my partner never changed his WA licence to a Victorian license. As we always knew the move would be temporary, he didn’t think there was a reason to change it.

My partner has contacted VicRoads and asked for a letter that he’s never held a Victorian Licence. Will this suffice? Will IRCC hold it against him that he never applied for a Victorian licence/updated his address while we were there? Should he supply his driving record from Western Australia? Or would that go against him (since he has had a couple minor speeding fines throughout the years).

I’m quite anxious about this as we are planning to move back to Canada ASAP once his PR is granted.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

• Australian National Police Certificate – Standard Disclosure – name check only (issued by the Australian Federal Police)
• Traffic History (for residents of Queensland only)
• Full Licence History Search (for residents of Victoria only)
