Hello. Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my question. My work history is set out below. I am applying through Express Entry under the Skilled Worker program. I am not sure how much work experience I have. I spent over three years working for the same law firm in London, but had two different roles (trainee solicitor, and then solicitor). I then left to travel for 18 months. I have since been working for 15 months as a solicitor (and recently promoted to a senior solicitor). I want to know if I have 3+ years of work experience (being my time in London), or some other number?

  • Worked September 2011 - September 2013 - Trainee Solicitor for Firm A in London
  • Worked September 2013 - October 2015 - Solicitor for same firm (Firm A) in London (no break between this position and position above)
  • October 2015 - February 2017 - Time off work to travel
  • March 2017 - Present - Solicitor, now Senior Solicitor, for new firm (Firm B) in Melbourne
Thanks in advance for your help

If the NOC is same for all the jobs, you have 6 years of work ex for FSW Eligibility points and for CRS score, you can claim points for 3+ years of work ex.

Hi Maverick, thanks for your prompt response. The NOC will certainly be the same for 2 of the years in London and 1.5 years in Melbourne, there is an argument that whilst I was a trainee (first 2 years in London) I fall under the paralegal NOC. However, I took a 1.5 year break between London and Melbourne, doesn't it have to be continuous for CRS?

You mention FSW eligibility points, what are these? My query was in relation to CRS score so intrigued to know what this is.

Thanks again.

However, I took a 1.5 year break between London and Melbourne, doesn't it have to be continuous for CRS? It has to be at least 1 year continuous. So your gap of 1.5 years will not affect it.

The FSW score is the eligibility score for Federal Skilled Worker. You need to score at least 67/100 to be eligible for FSW.

Thanks again.

Wow, I really did not know that, I thought my 1.5 year break would definitely mean my work experience is not continuous. Thanks for the information.
