Dear all, I had asked the canadain HC, New Delhi, if I could change my program from 1 yr PG to 2 yr masters with the existing 1 yr visa granted for PG study. They replied telling that I need to re-apply for student permit since there is a change in study plan. I am in a dilemma whether to re-apply or not. I am scared that they might revoke my existing visa also. . Am thinking of finishing 1 yr PG and then apply for masters from Canada. But what if they refuse to extend my study permit? Kindly tell me your opinion.

Which is better? take a chance now itself or try next year? Is it easy to get an extension of study permit from canada?

I dont think you should face a problem with study permit extension. I think thats granted if the student wishes to continue studies. Senior members what do you think?

At the moment, students can change the college or program upon arrival in Canada.

http: //www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=487&t=15

However, there is a proposed change that students will not be allowed to jump college, drop semester and will also be allowed to work from day one (OCWP).

so at the moment, yes you shouldn't have any issues getting your study permit extended.

I don't have the link. This info has come from many immigration lawyers in Toronto. Hence, I shared the info with you. Indeed, I myself read that moving forward they will be more vigilant and keep a track of all international students and I believe somebody posted a link as well.

Here we go http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/isp/docs/Overview-of-Proposed-Changes-to-ISP.pdf

So 3 things
1. So long as it's a designated institute nowhere do they restrict u from changing
2. Proviso to 1 is that no conditions have been imposed on ur study permit. If restrictions have been imposed ur anyway bound to same college and ur only option is to later try and apply for a change in status of study permit.
3. This is only for undergrads. In case of postgrads no changes have been proposed yet.

I guess you didn't read what i said. I said no such info in black and white. All the immigration lawyers in Toronto have the same feeling. Just for your info, all members of IRCC (including consultants and lawyers) participate in meetings to which students do not have any access. Hence, I didn't confirm any change or any proposed change, I told you what I heard.
