Hi all,

My dad has a Super Visa that will expire later this year. We are planning to apply to extend his stay. We've done it in the past and it's usually renewed for 1 year, so my questions are:
  • Is it possible that the visitor record will only be renewed for the remaining of the validity of the super visa, or renewed for one more year?
  • If it's renewed for one more year, does he need to renew his super visa, or only if he intends to exit and re-enter Canada?
Thanks!

is the supervisa expiried or is his extension period coming to an end? If the supervisa is expired he should return home and reestablish himself and then reapply for the supervisa. If you are applying for another extension you may not get another year although you can ask for one. Your father is still a visitor and if CIC feels like he has been in Canada too long usually extensions are no longer granted or granted for a month or two so the person can make arrangements to return home.
