Renewing PR card, passport problem

Hi, I have a little question and I was hoping that someone in this forum could help me. :). Thanks in advance!

I have been in Canada the last 5 years except for several different trips that lasted in total less than 8 months, for which I definitely qualify. I also work in Canada full time as reflected by my income tax.

The possible problem occurred to me when I read the following in the required documents for the application

"Photocopies of all pages of all passports you held in the past five (5) years (if your stamps are not in English or French, please have them translated, see section on Translation of documents)"

I renewed my passport recently, and when I renewed it I did not get the old one (the officials at the consulate asked me if I wanted it and, stupidly, I said no, and they saqid they will destroy it for me).

Now, is this going to be a problem for my application? if so, what should I do about it?

Again thanks in advance!

Yes, it could be a problem. IRCC still likes to use the archaic method of relying on passport stamps to check entry/exit records. You will have to explain it in a letter and hope that it does not delay you that much. They may ask for a lot of supporting documentation to compensate.

I concur in the response by keesio, with the additional observation that regular employment in Canada should be sufficient to offset the problem, assuming the employment in Canada reflects physically working at a location in Canada. However it may become necessary to submit additional evidence of presence in Canada.

This is typically a more difficult issue when applying for citizenship. Particularly if it is a country which would have allowed you to retain the older, cancelled passport.

Unfortunately, this situation may indeed trigger elevated scrutiny and a longer timeline processing the application for a new PR card.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your answers. This actually raises another concern for me both for renewing the PR card and also for a future citizenship application. If they rely on your passport to find out dates of entry in different countries (the stamp you get on your passport), as a European passport holder I do not have stamps of entry for any country in the European Union (which is the common practice in Europe)

I wonder what kind of documental proof they would need to support my declared travel dates in and out of Canada... DO you have any insight o this?

Thanks again in advance!
