Renewing passport while waiting for PR application

Hello everyone,

Summary about my situation:
I live in Canada right now on a study visa that is expiring the end of August. My passport is expiring at the same date as well. I have submitted my application for PR and passed medical exam. However, I am waiting for Service Canada offices to re-open to get my biometrics. I need to renew my passport to apply for study permit extension and I don't know when Service Canada offices would re-open.

Questions:
Can I use my driver's license to get my biometrics while my passport is being renewed?
Can I get a certified copy of my passport? How? Would that be accepted?

Biometrics require your passport. I haven't seen anything that would allow a copy to be used.
