Renewing my Visitor status while waiting for PR

So here's my scenario: I'm an American Citizen who is married to a Canadian citizen. My wife is sponsoring me under Family Class from within Canada and we have already sent in our forms to await the long PR process. In the meanwhile my visitor status pass will be expiring on June 30th so I went to the border to try and renew it. They said I first had to go to the US side and then cross back into Canada to renew the form. The PR website process clearly stated that I should avoid leaving the Canada while waiting for the PR to be approved because If I get denied on re entry to Canada the PR paperwork and money spent are forfeit. Is there some other alternative that's either free or a minor cost to doing this without crossing and quickly?

Thanks

Went to the border today with my father in law and had all the documentation that I believed to be necessary and I was told I can't get it renewed without doing something they called a "Flagpole" which apparently is just going to the US and back to Canada again. They said another alternative is doing it online for 200$. To me it seemed like a load of crap just to line someones pocket but I wasn't about to argue with them so just went home. Just don't see how that should be a requirement considering if someone was from lets say from Europe they would have to fly back and fly in again to make it work??

Flagpole is basically for someone who doesn't have US visa, and got approved with landing papers while in Canada on a visitor visa - they go to US border for flag poling where they don't enter US and they refuse admission ( administration reason ) and re-enter Canada with a U-Turn and get landed

Your case is different, you are allowed to stay upto 6 months and technically go back to the US , stay for 2-3 days and come back and free to live 6 months again ( unless officer has doubts ) . But since you are being sponsored, its not advisable to leave Canada as they say THUS apply for visa extension like all of us do. I have got my folks 2-3 ext and I have to pay $$ each time

Hi. I am in almost the same situation. Well, i just got my tourist visa and we're now pondering if were doing inland or outland visa application for my PR card.

Any suggestions for us? I might probably also file a trv extension once my tourist visa expires
