Renewal of PR Card

I want to renew my PR card 4 months before it expired as I learned from this forum that it takes 3 months for the first renewal. I'm already here in Canada and my 5 year mark will be on end of march 2012. The problem is I already spent 1095 days out of Canada before I came back here. But in my own calculation, I could still accumulate 731 days to comply with my residency obligation, of course, as long as I dont leave Canada before the last days of my 5 year mark. Should there be an issue or I will be question once I apply to renew my PR Card? Kindly advice.

Do not apply until you have reached 730 days in Canada in the 5 year window before you apply for your PR renewal. They are supposed to renew your PR card if you can still meet the 730 days even if you haven't yet but from other posters experience, those cases seem to be sent to residency questionnaire more often and that will add a long time to your PR renewal. Right now, it takes 154 days to renew, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp so that is about 5 months.

Thanks Leon. How about the urgent processing of PR card, how long does it takes? I want to travel 1 month after I accumulate the 730 days to attend my parent's 50th anniversary.

If you apply, ask for expediting processing and show proof of tickets to travel, you might get it as fast as one month. If it doesn't work out, you can still leave and apply for a travel document at the Canadian embassy in your parents country to go back.
