Our PR application is taking longer than usual time required. It's been 6 months! Now, our problem is my wife's open work permit is expiring in about 2 month's time. I am the primary applicant, and on a student visa. My wife is working, and is a dependent in the application. So it is most essential for her to maintain the eligibility to work in Canada. Since we are not certain how long CIC would take to finish processing, I am thinking to apply for the extension of her open work permit. Since her PR application is in process, can she, being a dependent in PR application, apply for the renewal of her open work permit?
We have got links that say the above application is possible, however, there is no clear distinction as to whether the eligibility to apply for the renewal is same for the principal applicant and a dependent. Any insight on this would highly be appreciated.
