Hi All, I've scoured the past discussions on this, but I just need to clarify a couple of things. Please kindly help.

I have an OWP with restrictions (can't work in the medical setting, etc.). I saw that we can remove the restrictions doing an upfront medical. Could you help me confirm several points?

1. Once I have the upfront medical, can I take my work permit to a CIC agent at the airport or land border and have the restrictions removed?

2. Do I really need to pay again or were there cases when a new OWP was issued without repayment?

3. Can I use the upfront medical for later PR application?

4. If I have to apply online to get a new OWP (and have to wait a month or more), do you know whether I can still use the current OWP to work legally in Canada (within the restrictions, of course)?

Thanks for any help.

1. Once I have the upfront medical, can I take my work permit to a CIC agent at the airport or land border and have the restrictions removed? I don't know if there is any such known process. These conditions stay

2. Do I really need to pay again or were there cases when a new OWP was issued without repayment? Answer as above

3. Can I use the upfront medical for later PR application? The medical validity is a temporary measure. Check canada.ca for news about medical validity at the time of submitting your PR application

4. If I have to apply online to get a new OWP (and have to wait a month or more), do you know whether I can still use the current OWP to work legally in Canada (within the restrictions, of course)? What is the basis for the new OWP? If you have a valid WP already then there is no ground to apply for a new one.

Thanks for any help.

Hello, thanks for responding. The conditions cannot be changed on the current work permit, that is why I need a new WP. See this:

If you want to work in a job that requires a medical exam, you must apply for a new work permit.

There's a process: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5551-applying-change-conditions-extend-your-stay-canada.html

The application is to extend, or change the conditions of an existing document.

Technically, you're a temporary resident (visitor) with authorization to engage in employment subject to proscribed conditions. You want to be a temporary resident (visitor) with authorization to engage in employment without any conditions. I don't mean to be pedantic, it's just the legal description.

Can you simply go to a Port of Entry and get one for free? I suspect the answer is a solid no, but one can rarely predict what the POE will do. The only way that they can make their jobs interesting is to make your experience a nightmare.

Good luck
