Hi,

I am an Indian currently studying in Canada for my Masters and have 3 years work experience from India. I am eventually planning to get PR once I have 1 year of work experience in Canada. I have a girlfriend for over 5 years who lives in Pakistan. We have never met and she is currently doing her graduation which is scheduled to be over in about a year and a half. We do love each other a lot and want to get married. She is Muslim and I am Hindu, so religion and countries are a problem for us and she would not be able to visit India and I cannot go to Pakistan.
Once she is finished with her studies, she is planning to study in Canada and eventually get a permanent residency. However, money would be an issue. So I wanted to know if I were to pay her tuition fee after I get my PR, would that be problematic for her to get a student visa? She would certainly be able to arrange the basic fee such as GIC amount etc. But tuition fee would be a problem.
She is from a conservative family so it wouldn’t be easy for her to just get out of her country whenever she wants so simply going to another country and just getting married would certainly raise red flags for her family and even if I were to sponsor her once I get my PR. I have talked to my friends about this as well but no one can help us out.

The other option that I could think of was for her to get 3 years of work experience and get a Master’s degree and then apply for her PR directly.

Is there any other way possible? If Yes then please help us out.

Generally speaking, it's harder to get a study permit approved if the person sponsoring the either the tuition or living expenses isn't an immediate family member (e.g. spouse or parent). So this is one complication I see in her going the study permit route. If she cannot fund the tuition and living expenses herself or through her parents, it may be quite difficult for the application to be approved with you as the sponsor. However you can certainly try.

Yes, if she gets a few years of work experience and a Master's, then she can try to apply for PR directly through an economic immigration program like Express Entry. Keep in mind that she will still need to show her own funds / savings to prove she has the money required to support her settlement in Canada.

Once you are a PR, you will only be able to sponsor her for PR if you either get married or live together for a year continuously to become common law.
