Reinstatement of PR

I had to relinquish my PR officially in 2015 due to not fulfilling residency requirements . My family was residing in Canada and they are Canadian citizens now. I opted to be employed outside Canada and couldn't fulfill residency requirements . Since I had to visit my family in Canada I had to get a visitor visa upon expiry of PR card. At that point the embassy official told me to relinquish my PR status before applying for visitor visa.
Now I am nearing retirement from my overseas employment as I am 61 years old.
After retirement my wish is to settle in Canada as a PR holder rather than a visitor or a super visa holder.
Both my sons are Canadian citizens and are employed in Canada. My wife also lives in Canada as a PR holder and is employed, part time.
Please advise me the easiest way to get my PR status reinstated.

There is no way to get your PR status reinstated. You will need to apply for PR status again from scratch.

Your wife will need to sponsor you for PR through the spousal sponsorship stream. When she applies, she needs to make sure she meets the residency obligation (i.e. has lived in Canada for at least 2 out of the last five years).

There's no way to get your PR re-instated. You would need to qualify from scratch. If your wife is in Canada, and meets the RO, she can sponsor you as her husband under family class.
