Hello,

Need some advice here. My parents have been here once on single entry tourist visa and stayed for 6 months. I'd like to call them again this year and confused whether to apply for a multiple entry regular visa or super visa this time. We would want them to stay for a year but not exactly sure whether they would like to spend the winter here. Also it seems super visa needs the medical insurance bought in advance and I am not exactly sure how that works.

I want to know if they come on a regular visa then how difficult it is to get extension for another 6 months if they like to stay for a year? What are the chances it will get rejected? Does that spoil their case for future visits?

Also in case they come on a multiple entry visa and also get visa for the US then is it possible to just take them to the US for a few days and bring them back for a reentry for another 6 months?

Please advise.

Depends on the case. You will need a valid reason to extend their stay "just visiting" is not a very strong argument.

If they leave as soon as their request is refused then no, otherwise yes.

It may, as long as their 6 months period expires while they are in the USA. When they come back they will be reassessed by a CBSA officer. If he sees fit he may give up to 6 months or refuse entry.

As a footnote, CBSA officers don't like people bending rules neither "smart people" who want to "save" on a visitor extension by travelling to the USA.

Super Visa will give you more flexibility and they can leave anytime and then come back if they don't like to spend the winter in Canada. As for insurance, I would suggest getting them insured even if they come on a regular visa to avoid any unnecessary risks. If they stay here for less than a year, insurance companies usually refund the remaining time (if there are no claims) and as far as buying it in advance, you can always look into getting a monthly plan, where you pay only for two months before they arrive in Canada.
You can check out Arbetov Insurance for that option.
