I am planning to get married soon. I am a permanent resident. However, my would be spouse is in India and will be applying for a visitor visa. Does she have to inform CIC once we get married to inform them of the change in status? If so, will this delay the processing time?

If her TRV application is still being processed yes she should Inform IRCC that she is married and your information and status. Would really recommend she attempt to get a TRV before you get married.

Hi Canuck,

My case is slightly different. I am a Canadian PR and my fiance is in India with no current Canadian status.
In July, she applied for her TRV as a single/unmarried person who wishes to visit me (her friend) in Canada. We attached travel itineraries and tentative travel dates, and also mentioned in the letter of explanation that we understand that immediate travel may not be possible, but since this visa is usually for 10 years, we are applying now. And we attached all necessary documentation.

Due to delays in processing, she has not been able to submit her biometrics in India, Now we are getting married next week.

What do you recommend? Do we raise a webform and update the application stating that she now qualifies as an immediate family member? We would plan to support this by showing strong ties to India - mainly her job contract (she is a dentist) which binds her to her job until 2022. We also plan to mention that I am sponsoring her PR simultaneously, and this visa would be to visit me (her husband) periodically as and when time permits.

OR do we just hang in there with the current application as an unmarried person and hope for an approval?

It is tricky.

She will need to update her status after she gets married.
