1, If the child is a citizen of a non visitor visa exempt country, then s/he would require a TRV to enter Canada. S/he would probably be given visitor status to the expiry of the parents work permit.
The kid is also provided a visitor record which looks like a work permit paper. TRV is not given in this case and not required.
The visitor record document ensures that kid can stay as long as the Principal Applicant's work permit is valid and the 6month visitor rule does not apply in this case.
