Hi pals,

I recently received an offer from a Canadian University and am in the process of applying for a study permit. In terms of proof of fund, my mother and I only have the minimum amount in our bank account (which is tuition + 10k living expenses per year according to IRCC). However my offer letter says that 'As an international student in a research-based graduate program, you may be eligible for an International Tuition Award in the amount of $3,200 CAN. This award will automatically be granted to you, unless you receive external funding for your tuition from your home government or other funding agency which is equal to or higher than the value of the International Tuition Award'. I'm not sure if this can be count as a formal proof of scholarship. In this case is it necessary to borrow a loan from the bank?

Thanks!

Hey there,
Why don't you call up the university and ask the admissions if you've been granted the award. If so, ask them to send you an official email or a letter via email and this can be showed as a proof. As over the offer letter it say's "YOU MAYBE" so I guess this cannot be used as an official proof.

Why don't you go for a GIC certificate, this would ensure that all funds are being shown while you apply for the study permit. The bank will take care of the statement.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice there, I would contact the uni and see if they can give me a statement.

In terms of GIC, I have considered that before, however the uni says they might not be able to give me the tuition receipt until early July (because course registration opens in late June and I can't pay my tuition before that). So on the uni website they recommend the regular program over SDS. I have had a study permit before which might help speed up the process but still, I don't think I could get the visa before September if I go for a GIC.
