Hello,
I am currently enrolled in a co-op fast track program. In my program there were 2 co-op work terms. I did one on summer 2014 and second in fall 2014. Currently I am enrolled in the winter 2015 semester and the summer 2015 is an official break, and then last semester of the program in fall 2015. To be eligible for working during co-op, I applied for co-op work permit online last year. I do not have any more co-op work terms.
- My visa expires on July 31, 2015, as I was in a non co-op program when I landed in Canada, then changed to co-op program in same institution. I have to extend my visa also.
- I want to work full time at my previous employer from my first co-op work term. They are offering me full time temporary employment for 4 months.
My questions are:
- Am I eligible to work full time for full semester during official summer break? As study permit was issued on August 2013, it states that 'Unless authorized, prohibited from engaging in employment in Canada'. What I read in the forum in after June 1, 2014, students qualify to work off campus even without a work permit, on their study permits (20 hours during regular semester, full time during breaks). As my study permit was issue before June 1, 2014, I am not eligible to work full time during my summer break?
- If not, do I have to apply for an off campus work permit, to work during summer break?
- Within the 90 days from study permit expiry I will apply to extend the study permit till Dec 2015. Will this new study permit be under the rules changed after June 1, 2014 or it will carry over same rules from my old study permit?
- My employer is asking for the work permit for employment purposes for my job in summer 2015 (May - August), last time I sent my co-op work permit because it was a co-op placement. Should I send the copy of my study permit that is expiring in July 31, 2015?
Regards,
Deep Virk.
