You need only ONE DD.

Some additional information for you in case you will be making a DD from India : Please check this link : http://www.standardchartered.co.in/personal/tools-utilities/en/Revised%20validity%20period%20of%20Cheques,%20Drafts,%20Pay%20Orders%20&%20Banker%27s%20Cheques.html

"As per RBI guidelines, with effect from April 1, 2012, the validity period of Cheques, Demand Drafts, Pay Orders and Banker's Cheques will be reduced from 6 months to 3 months, from the date of issue of the instrument."

And according to CIC rules :

"Note: Certified cheques, bank drafts and money orders may have expiry dates. When you submit your application to the CIO, the expiry date must be at least five months into the future. "

Scroll down to : Payment method options

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp#pay-fee

So, you will not get a draft issued from any bank of India that has a validity of 5 months or more.

Your other option is to pay by Credit card and in this case your CC should be valid for at least nine months from your submission date.

Be careful regarding payment of fees. We have seen many applications being returned for this issue and then the applicant was just helpless.

Good Luck.
