Hello,
I would be grateful if anyone could answer my queries.

My husband who is a IT professional has applied for work permit extension for another 1.5 yrs and has applied my visitor visa extension too.

But his passport is valid only until Aug 2011.

So I pretty well knew that his extended work permit(which would be received later ) will be valid only until Aug 2011.

Now,am really worried about the LMO introduction for IT professionals from Oct1st,2010.

I want to apply open work permit but I thought of waiting until I get my visitor visa extension in hand.

But , Are the LMO changes applicable for spousal open work permit ?? Meaning even though the applicant has open work permit ,should he/she bother LMO processing ?

Though my visitor visa extension is in progress ,Can I apply for a open work permit NOW ???

Or is it better to wait until I receive my husband's extended WP copy and my visitor visa extension too and then apply for Open Work Permit???

Please advice !!

1. You should have applied for an open work permit at the same time your spouse applied for his extension. But thats water under the bridge now.
2. You will have to wait until your spouse receives his WP and then you can apply for your OWP, if you apply now, it is unlikely that they will marry the two applications up.
3. Note that his WP will only be valid to 08/11 and so will your OWP. So he will have a problem when it comes to further extensions, he will require an LMO>

Hi PMM,Many thanks for your reply.

My husband's employer did not facilitate processing of my OWP .So parallel processing of mine along with that of my spouse WP application was not possible. The employer would help in extending the spouse's visitor visa alone.

Is the LMO equally applicable for OWP holders too ?

No, but your spouse will require an LMO to get any extensions after his present WP expires. If he doesn't get the LMO and a new work permit at that time, then you won't get an OWP.

Not until you have a copy of your spouses work permit.

You mean I should be having my husband's extended work permit copy in hand ??

Can't I use his existing WP copy ?
your owp is only valid until your husband's wp, so you would have to wait for his extended wp to come.. by the way, i have applied for an extension to my wp in the 1st week of june and i havent heard from the cpc vegreville office (i'm in IT as well and applied without lmo as it is exempt till september 30, 2010)... has your husband heard from the cpc office yet as we share somewhat similar timelines..
