Hi Everyone,

I read a few posts that one can be refused becasue of the wrong NOC Code....Is it true?
I thought the most important thing is that the job description must match one of the NOC Codes (B)...So the title is not that important, rather the job description...For example my NOC Code is 1241 however I got an e-mail from NOc sepcialist that based on the job descprition it falls under 1221...Now I'm confused...Please help...

Unless you are way off, I dont think minor differences would result in refusal. But yes, you must not be too concerned about the title but rather try to match the job descriptions.

Also, who is this NOC specialist you talked to? Someone from the government and working in HRDC?

Hi,

I sent an e-mail to HRSDC and copied the job description...In their response they are saying that based on my description it falls under NOC 1221 (Admin. Officers)...However according to my search it falls under 1241 (Admin. Assistant- Admin Secretary) as all the main duties of 1241 does match with my job description...Only 3 additional duites does not match exactly with discription of 1241...So I don't really udnerstand how to determine this NOC...What's the difference between Administrative Officer and Administrative Assistant???...As according to them it is not the same...Regarding the employment requirements listed I have both requirements as I have a Vocational Certificate as an Office Manager(For Secretaries) and also a Bachelor DEgreee in Business Manamegemt (for Admin.Officers)...
Which NOc COde to use now???I don't want to be refused because of a NOC Code....I've already received a few reference letter's from the supplier companies whom I'm in contact with on a regulat basis, as a Secretary...

THANKS!!!

1221 and 1241 are similar; they would usually have different work environments, and an officer would typically have more responsibility than an assistant.

Those who have problems with their NOC do so because their responsibilities cannot be clearly distinguished from an unskilled NOC. The two you mention are at the same level, so I don't think it will be a problem.

After reading about this I have gotten very concerned about my NOC code. I have included copy of my contracts and also letter of reference from my employer in my application. Based on how the letter of reference or my contract gets interpreted I could either be 2171 or 2174 or even 2173. All of these NOC codes I mentioned, are eligible under CEC but I have seen people here geting rejected by their job description not matching the NOC one. I have chosen 2171 for my application and I have a feeling it's not the right code.

I received my AOR on April 24th and I am very much considering an advice from a lawyer before I get any shocking letters from CIC. It took me months to collect all the documents that I need for my application. I think I am still able to reprint and send schedule 8 with the correct NOC code. I really need a good lawyer in Toronto. I have already contacted 7 of them and I will be scheduling an appointment for next week. I think I'd rather pay $250 so I can go to bed without nightmares.

Hey Islington,

I'm thinking of applying under 1241 myself, except my position title is Account Officer.

Do you think you can post the job duties your employer provided you with on the reference letter? I have some discretion to modify my job dutiesto better fit with this NOC, but I want to see what kind of flexibility there is. Thanks!

Hi kamaleddin,

I know your message is old but I hope you can help me.
I have exactly the same problem as you had. My job can be interpreted as NOC 2171, 2173 or 2174.
I want to choose 2174 because, according to me, it seems to be the closest one.
Those NOCs are all under category A...
Do you have any advice ?
