Hi, Im on the refugee claim status, I did my claim on march of this year, apparently I have yo wait at least 1 year to hear about the resolution of my claim. Anyways, i been living with my boyfriend for a year now and we are thinking in getting married. We think we have no problem proving this relationship is genuine because it actually is, what I would like to know is if how the marriage affects or helps to my claim and what is the process to follow after we do it. What is the difference between getting married and going under the common law way? Do we have to follow the same process in both cases? And how long takes getting a resolution in both cases? My biggest interest is that my boyfriend needs to go out of the country the next year and we would love going together, but I can not leave the country because of my refugee status, so, what I also would like to know is when am I allowed to leave the country and come back without problems after I get married?
I know is a lot of questions but I am a little confused, is hard to make plans and go to the next level in the relationship when you dont know if you´ll be allowed to stay and travel and do stuff with your partner. I hope you can help me, than you.

You just can apply now under married or common law , and you can also keep your refugee claim on,

if youwant to leave the country with your boyfriend you have to drop the refujee.

what I advice you or I thinkyou should Talk to lwayer,
keep your reguee claim and apply for maried or common law sponserd

I'm having the same problem as the OP. Can anybody tell me in what would we benefit by applying for common law? Would that mean that in case my refugee claim is denied I would get to stay through the common law sponsorship?

Would they have to apply inland with her being a refugee? She's in Canada only due to that status, otherwise she would need a visa or a work permit. And if she did drop the refugee application, wouldn't she have to leave and then get a TRV to re-enter the country? And after dropping the refugee application, I would think they would be hesitant to give her one.Sounds really complicated. Inland application is going to take a couple of years and she shouldn't leave the country. Just my thoughts.......I can see why you are confused......
