I applied for refugee status back in October and I haven’t heard from immigration ever since. I am a little worried and wondering if I should call to ask about my case because last time I heard from them they were sending me my work permit.

My friend applied in last day of 2019 and didnt hear anything from CIC so far. Just got her work permits.

Yes - that make sense and this timing is normal. It will likely be another year or possibly more before her hearing is scheduled.
