Refugee claimant 2024 and work permit

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to hear from others in a similar situation or anyone who has insight into this process.

Here’s my timeline:

• October 2024 – I made a refugee claim at the airport.
• November 2024 – I submitted my claim through IRCC and also applied for a work permit.
• Current status – IRB says they received my claim, but it hasn’t started processing yet because I’m still in the screening stage with CBSA.
• As of now (May 2025), I have not received my work permit.

Has anyone experienced the same situation?

• How long did your CBSA screening take?
• When did you get your work permit?
• What happened next in your case?
