I just got a reference letter from one of my employer. pls read and let me know what u think.

To whom it may concern.

This letter will confirm that Ms.........has been employed with the above named company on a part time basis since June 2009 in a capacity of personal support worker. Her duties include, providing assistance to clients with activities of daily living, basic personal care and meal preparation.

Ms...... further pursued her career in nursing and soon obtained her license as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario. She began her role as a Registered Practical Nurse with above named company in october 2010. As an RPN, she is regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Her duties include, but not limited to, assessing patients, administering medications and treatments.

Her annual salary from 2009 to 2011 is as follows:
2009- $2,390
2010- $9,763
2011- $27, 493

Currently Ms..... works on an average of 48 hours bi-weekly at the rate of $23.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. Statutory deductions are made at source.
Should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.

sincerely

.............

Director of nursing

The letter is offically signed and sealed with the company's seal and business letter of the director attached as well. I managed to convince the director to list all the main duties but she says that I will be fine with what she provided and that my duties are not limited as she mentioned and they can call her if they need. I dont know if this letter will be okay and satisfy the VO including my RPN license
I am still very confused.
Pls look into it and tell me what u think my wonderful seniors. This is the company that I made 1685hrs from. In the company's website,
all the RPN main duties and responsibilities are listed there but she refused to copy them and paste in the letter saying that what she wrote is good enough for me to immigrate and that as an RPN, I am good to go....
Should I print the main duties from the website and attach it to the letter or just leave the letter as it is?????? If i decide to print from company's website, should i attach a written explanation???????

I don't know if anyone here had the similar situation and how it was resolved.
Also should i tell the director to include 2012 annual salary so far to date or just leave it???????? should i include my paystubs from this company as well?????
I am still waiting for my other companies to write the letter but this company is where i made most of my hours. please read and let me know if this letter is good to go...

Hi UJBaby

I am not an expert on this.....as I am also collecting my documents.........but I think duties are a very integral part of the letter. I would recommend you to attach the duties from the website, if possible, with an explanation of why is it as an attachment.

The other thing i wanted to point out is..........you began as a PSW in 2009. I presume you are not counting this as your time, if it is not a NOC 0, A, B. if it is the right NOC then, no issues

Hence your time actually began from october 2010. But from what you have given as annual salary made in 2010 and 2011, the hours dont add up to 1685

2010 $9763 $9763/$23 per hour 424.48 hours
2011 $27493 $27493/$23 per hour 1195.35 hours

Total 1619.83 hours

Just wanted to lay it out to you that if you have 1685 hours, make sure that it is easily identified by the VO and T4's and pay stubs will be the best way for you to prove it to him/her. if you were paid different salaries, i would recommend that to be mentioned on the letter itself.

Now, i am not an expert on this but I had to reason with my company the same thing and finally they did agree. this doesnt mean that my way is the only right way, i was just suggesting. i am sure there are many other ways that we can circumvent the letter but i am not sure about how acceptable those methods would be...........seeing that they are getting really tough on the letter issue these days.

Thanx hopefulagain. I added all my hours as RPN from my paystubs since i started working as RPN and it rounded up to 1685hrs with this company. that 2009 salary is not among the hrs because it is psw. my employer mentioned 2009 salary because the documents checklist mentioned to get reference letter from last 3 yrs and psw was done 3 yrs ago. I never added any psw hours because it is not skilled so i am aware of that. my employer didnt mention my 2012 salary up to date and i am thinking of telling them to include it so to avoid confusion. i only need suggestions on what to do.. i appreciate ur response and i am still waiting for other seniors to suggest as well

A few items to improve on:

1. pcw job - they should specify start date of job(June 2009 is vague) and stop date or write "to present" if you are still working as a pcw. Same goes for the RPN job.

2. While your annual salary is mentioned for 3 years, it does not specify for which job(pcw or RPN). How would the VO tell them apart? Also, if you were paid an hourly wage for the pcw job, they should indicate that too as well as any benefits you have.

3. Pcw and RPN are separate jobs, and you can minimise confusion by getting 2 separate letters.

Give your employers a copy of the CEC checklist because it lists everything that is needed.

It wouldn't hurt to attach the print out and include an explanation.

Agreed, it won't hurt to attach the printout, but the main duties are listed. You have an advantage in a way by working in a regulated occupation, because your duties (scope of practice) are clearly defined by your regulatory college.

The PSW and LPN positions must be clearly distinguished from one another, in terms of hours, wages, etc. - as described above, it's extremely confusing for the VO.
