Reentering Canada from US with single entry TRV

Hello, guys

I am a Chinese visiting student in US with a J-1 US visa, and applied for a Canadian single-entry TRV in DC in April. When I picked up my visa, the visa officer told me that I may use this visa to enter Canada multiple times from US within the time allowed for my stay in Canada as long as I do not go to a third country.
I visited Niagara falls last weekend. The Canadian Border Service officer circled at the ‘Number of entry: ONE' item on my visa and put a stroke on it as well.
I'm going to present my paper on an academic conference held in Ottawa in June 8th. And I won't go to a country other than US and Canada before that date.

My questions are:
1. Does this stroke on my visa mean that it is not valid anymore? Do I need a new visa?
2. If it is still valid, are there any difficulties when I enter Canada in June BY AIR? Someone said in this situation I might have difficulties on boarding.

No, you don't need to face any difficulties unless your Canadian visa is valid, doesn't matter if it's single entry visa.

So my visa is still VALID even with a stroke from the left-top to the right-bottom corner? The expiry date on the visa is in August.

Actually, I'm not worried about the Canadian Border Service officer, but rather the airlines in US. There is a previous post on this forum from a user named 'Keerti Kotecha', saying that Continental Airlines stopped them from boarding on the aircraft because Continental thought they were showing them a used visa. Please search for the details.

BTW, I booked a flight from porter.

2. If there is a stamp with no date, then you were admitted for 6 months from the date of the entry, so you can re-enter Canada up to 6 months from the US, without obtaining a new TRV.
3. If there is a date written under the stamp, then you can only enter up to that date.
4. If there is no stamp, you have a problem and will probably require a new TRV.

I have a stamp with the date when entering Canada (May 26th). The date is in the middle as part of the stamp, not hand-written. I think this should be situation #2, am I right?

That is correct, you can enter for six months starting May 26th.

Would you mind letting me know when you successfully re-enter Canada? I meet the same situation now. J1 scholar---I have a single entry visa, and have used it last week, but willing to visit Canada again one month later.
I also have a stamp close to the visa, which showed the date I entered Canada. And a long line cross the visa.

Since I have an entry stamp without a date, I can legally enter Canada from US with the my single-entry TRV as many times as I like within 6 months from the first entry. If the CBSA gave a date under the entry stamp, that would be the expiry date of the stay.

Anyway, I'll share my experience of re-entering Canada afterwards.

I explained that I have called CIC and asked Canadian Embassy in US, and they both told me I can repeatedly enter Canada from US with this Visa. After asked where I was going to visit, he just put a stamp on my passport and let me go.

However, I don't think there's any information on my visa showed a business trip. No, I came here by air. The conversation between me and the CBSA officer happened at the Canadian border of Toronto city airport.
I think that should be fine for you. I recommend you to call CIC to confirm it.

Great to know that you had no issues going back again.

I visited Niagara and Toronto during memorial day and my single entry TRV was also crossed at entry, but no hand written date except the date that comes with the stamp which is nothing but the date of entry.

I plan to visit Montreal during July 4th week end and hopefully there will be no issues.
