Hello,
I'm in a rush, just like everyone else! ^^

We got married at City Hall and received the "Record of Solemnization of Marriage " but I called Service Ontario and they told me it would take around 10 weeks to process it and another 3 weeks to apply for a marriage certificate. So apparently it takes like 3 months to get my "marriage certificate" even though I got married and have "Record of Solemnization of Marriage", so I'm asking:

1) Could I just send the "Record of Solemnization of Marriage" instead of the "Marriage Certificate"?
2) Does anyone have experience in this? (sorry, but I stopped trusting everyone after I called the CIC call center and they all gave me DIFFERENT answers about the SAME questions)

Oh! I would also like to ask if I have to get my medical and police clearance all done and send them with the "Part 1: Sponsorship" process.

Thank you! Good luck to everyone..
Hopefully your child will thank you for going through all this process before them! :)

Hi Josh,

We got married in Ontario too and "Record of Solemnization of Marriage" will not be able to replace the marriage certificate. There is an online site that you can go to order the certificate and I applied at 5 weeks past wedding and to our surprise we got our licence within 2 weeks of ordering (sooo it had been 7 weeks past our wedding date) I recommend to order even the online record say its not registered yetlol..I am glad I did.

Here is the site for ordering the certificate on line..the lady who performed our ceremony said it is much faster than ordering by mail: http://www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_residents/121591

I am still waiting for my FBI to come back but I have everyting done and ready to go. If the FBI certificate doesn't come in by the time my other background certificates expire I am going to send my PR application w/out it. :( Some say its okay to do so and others say wait til the FBI certificate to arrive.

Thank you for the quick reply, and if I may ask:

you are getting FBI certificate because you lived in US? right?

yes..if you lived in any country for more than 6 months after turning 18 yrs old you need to get a police certificate from there..so in my case yup I need FBI certificate. If you haven't done so do it
ASAP because it will take weeks (6weeks ~several months depends on if they take your prints or not). I wish I had done it much sooner really. :(

I was married at Toronto City Hall and applied for the certificate online 6 days after the marriage. I got it about two weeks after that, so don't be afraid to apply immediately after marriage. They will send the information to you as soon as they have it, which will likely be much faster than 10 weeks.

If I may ask, how did the marriage process go at the city hall?
Do you stand in front of a judge? Wear just casual clothing? thx!

So should I (sponsor) have to also get a police clearance (only been in Canada)?
and if my spouse is from South Korea and currently residing in Canada (over 6 months) should she be required to get a police certificate from South Korea and Canada?

If so where and how do you apply in canada (could you provide a link)? (ex: RCMP, police station)

Thank you!

Sponsors don't need a police clearance..its the applicants that need.

As for your wife (applicant) she will need a police clearance from all countries that she resided for more than 6 months after turning 18..except for Canada..reference link is below.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp ( how to obtain a police cert)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/canada.asp (Canada)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/korea-south.asp (S. Korea)

So I assume the applicants don't need a police clearance til CIC asks for it for Canada. At least you don't have to wait like weeks for FBI like some of us..lol

Do you stand in front of a judge? Wear just casual clothing? thx!

We wore 'wedding clothes' as most people did (lineups on Saturdays!) but their information says that any attire you feel is appropriate for your day is ok. The judge just wears a robe. It's actually done in a nice little room with seating for about 20 people. There is a judge and you and your spouse stand up and he/she stands in front of you off to the side, and after that you sit down in the same room at a desk with your witnesses (must be 2 witnesses over 18) and sign the paperwork. The bride can walk down a little staircase if she wants, and if the father is there to walk her down he can do that too (that's what we did). If you have a specific day in mind I suggest you book as early as you can because weekends and holiday times fill up quickly. You have to pay a deposit to hold your day and you have to pay the rest on the day of the wedding in cash. We booked about two months in advance but you could probably not book that early (we got married the day before Easter). You have to go and get your marriage paperwork in the downstairs part of City Hall during normal weekdays hours before your wedding, and each person has to have a government ID. They don't provide any paperwork at the wedding, you have to get it in advance.. it's all at www.marryus.org. :)

We also got a photographer and the shots inside and out were really nice.. everyone said it didn't look like a 'city hall' wedding :)

Lovely!
I would only have to get my applicant's since she lived in Korea most of her life. Thank you so much!

I tried this and it works. So though I will post here if anyone else needs their marriage certificate ASAP.

Send them a fax stating why you need it urgently with a proof of urgency document (In my case a work permit that was expiring). They will mail it to you within the next day.

If his work permit or visitors permit or he is not getting deported they will take the regular route to process the marriage certificate. Their has been plenty of debate over the last two years about both certificate and just the solemnized piece of info . You are better to wait and get the marriage certificate . Get both the long and short form version as Cic don't know what they are doing and often will ask for the other one you have sent . If you don't send the marriage certificate they will likely send you a notice and a bringforward date or send your application back . The Ontario marriage certificate says up the top Marriage Licence which often confuses them. I sent the long form, others have sent the long form and have been asked to send the short form. Better be safe than sorry .

A bring forward date will delay your application . It could be between 30 days 45 days or even 60, so really you are better off waiting to have a complete application. If you are doing an outland application you need to do your medical upfront.

For your court wedding if the applicant has been divorced before there are some extra steps to take.
