Hi,
I am a Canadian citizen and I live in Ontario...I separated from my common law wife 3 months ago. We have 3 children. I plan to marry early next year and sponsor my future wife from Cambodia. Do I need proof that I am single if my ex and I were never officially married? That is to say...Am I free to marry?
Thanks

You don't have to prove you are separated if you are not married to each other . You are both free to marry. I would how ever contact CRA and have this changed on your income tax as single.

Thanks Taffy7

... in addition... I didn't mention that I was married before to my wife which I am planning to sponsor. My Kids are still with her and I'm planning to sponsor them all together. Do you think I can easily apply for the normal process of family sponsoring ? Can my former wife be easily approved with visa without any hesitation ?

Thanks again,
Bb

How and when did you immigrate to Canada? When did you divorce your wife? Did you declare your children in your PR app?

FYI, I believe that you may be required, or at least it would be helpful to your application, if you submit a Statutory Declaration - Separation of Legal Spouses and Common-law Partners.
