Hi all,
My wife is an Irish citizen. She entered Canada yesterday with all of the documents required to activate her working holiday visa, however the officer gave her a work permit for one year only. We were pretty sure that Irish citizens get a two year work permit, but the officer insisted he could only give a one year permit and suggested we apply for an extension before it expires. It seemed to me that the officer wasn't clear on what he was supposed to give us.
Has anyone had this experience before? How do we rectify this situation? Could we go back to the border and request an updated work permit?
The work permit was issued until Aug 2016. She has travel insurance for two years (expires Aug 2017) and her passport only expires in 2019, so neither insurance nor passport validity could've been the issue. Also the officer didn't ask to see proof of insurance or funds.
Your help is appreciated!!
Thanks...
