Hi everyone,

I am currently abroad for professional reasons. I received my P1 late last week and intent to answer today (within 7 day window).

I will be abroad until late May, at which point, I will be coming back to Canada.

I will be leaving again mid June until late June.

How to best navigate this? Is the procedure below appropriate? I've received very conflicting info from IRCC, a lawyer, online.

  1. Answer P1 letting IRCC know I am abroad until end of May, attach flight info.
  2. Upon my return to Canada in late May, answer the original P1 informing IRCC of my return.
  3. Await the reception of P2 - let's say this takes a week.
  4. Receive P2 whilst still in Canada, inform IRCC that I will be travelling from mid June to end of June OR that I will be out of Canada until late June. At this point, should I set up my online account/submit my photo? I have been advised not to
  5. Upon my return in late June, email back original P2 that I am back on Canadian ground and then fill out portal.
  6. Stay in Canada until I receive eCOPR.
Thank you so much for your help!

Edit: alternatively, should I simply answer P1 saying I am out of the country until end of June?

Are you needing to fly both times or can you enter via a land border? Are you a US citizen?

Hi @canuck78, thanks for answering.

I am not a US citizen but can easily enter the territory. I do need to fly both times and really want to avoid getting my eCOPR whilst outside of the canadian territory.

Just reply you are outside of Canada and provide them with the date you'll be back. They will contact you again.

Regarding other points: you cannot receive eCoPR while outside of Canada. So best is not to travel after P2.

Would suggest telling IRCC when you receive P1 that you have multiple trips scheduled out of Canada during May and June and will be back for good on June X. Would request that they only send P2 after that date. You can also could ask whether it would be better to reply to the same P1 address again when you arrive at the end of June confirming you are back in Canada.
