Hi everyone,

My old work permit expires in November 2023. I opted in for the 18 month extension that IRCC provided and got a new work permit in April. My new work permit expires in October 2024 (18 months after the opt in date, not the original expiry date). Has anyone had this happen to them? I’m not sure if it was a mistake or not but I haven’t heard anything from IRCC to address it.

This is correct, please see below point

  1. Select opt into stay and work in Canada for up to an additional 18 months from the date this extension is approved.
    • For example, if your PGWP expires in 4 months and your extension is approved, you can expect to get an additional 14 months, for a total of 18 months, for no additional fee.

Ideally you could have preferred to wait till November 2023 and then extended your permit using regular method rather than "Opting In" -- personal opinion and not an expert advice
