Hi all,
I'm a Canadian citizen sponsoring my Italian husband for PR. We submitted in May so we don't expect to be approved for a couple months yet, but my husband just received a job offer in Canada. The employers are eager for him to start asap but we're currently living outside of Canada. So we were wondering: would he be able to apply for a work permit while we wait for PR approval? He'd likely be eligible for the new two-week processing through the Global Skills Strategy since the job is NOC class A.
Thanks in advance!

Yes - he can apply for a work permit while PR is in process.

Note that he'll most likely still need an LMIA which his employer needs to obtain before the work permit application can be submitted. Alternatively if he's thinking of leveraging IMP, he needs to make sure he meets those requirements first.

We have seen many cases here that qualify under Global Skills Strategy but processing still drags out for a few months. So just be aware that the two weeks is by no means guaranteed.
