Received fee refund twice

Hi folks,

My friend is facing strange situation. She changed her college after arriving in Canada. She requested fee refund from old college. College refunded it in her father's bank account in her home country ( from where actual fee was paid).

But they sent it twice.

She got notice from college that by technical error bank made the transfer twice and they are dependent on my friend's diligence to return this money.

Is there any legal obligation for her to
give this money back to college?

It would be really helpful if anyone can provide some guidance.

no obligation as it is not her bank account. but why to take risk? She is going to be here for a long time plus I assume she will also be applying for PR in future so better to return. Tell the college that all cannot be returned as there are charges to transfer the money back plus if dollar rate goes down then they may be getting $500-$1000 less depending on the dollar rate when you transfer it back to them.
