Hello,

So I applied for permanent residency outland from the UK London high commission. While waiting for my Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR) i decided to take a six-week trip to Thailand.

One week in, and my partner tells me that they sent me my COPR to my Canadian home address, as requested. However, I do not have it with me here in Thailand.

I intend to return to Canada via Toronto on February 24th without my COPR. I am hoping that they'll let me in as a visitor (i'm British), then, when i get home, I can take my COPR to a border crossing and re-enter, hopefully getting issued my permanent residency card.

Is this possible? Will I have any issues doing this? Would it be possible to get my partner to post my COPR to me in Thailand then I can re-enter with it?

Thanks for your advice!

You may enter Canada as a visitor with ease since you're from a Visa-Exempted country. And then do as you said, re-enter with your COPR to finish the landing process.

When the customs ask you for your purpose in Canada - just explain to them your situation and it shouldn't be an issue
Mailing the COPR would be another option - but unnecessary. The first option seems reasonable.

Yes both options are totally fine.

1, Enter as visitor, take COPR to closest USA land border (from Toronto is Niagara Falls) and do your PR landing there.

2. Mail the COPR to your address in UK, then just do the landing when you arrive in Toronto airport. No need to go to Niagara.

The only thing you need to watch with first option, is on your initial entry into Canada from the UK you will not be landing as PR, so will not be able to benefit from the B4 forms to get your goods in tax free. If you're importing a bunch of your personal belongings in at that time they would be entering as a visitor with you, so would be subject to all taxes/fees that are usually waived for landing PRs.

Kuz, congratulations. How was it possible for you to come in and out of Canada during the 2 years of waiting for your PR application knowing fully well that you practically live in Canada during this period?
