I applied for a visitor visa and I got approved.

I got surprised because they gave me 14 months only. The visa will expire with the passport !!

Last time I did it, I received it 5 years even though the visa expiration data was after the passport expires.

Why they changed?

What should I do now?

Shroud I claim for the rest of 5 years or what?

please help me

Re: Received 14 month only visitor visa !!!!!!

There is never a guarantee on how long CIC will provide you a visa for. A TRV for Canada is not a 'right' that you can claim, it's a privilege. CIC already states clearly that TRV validity shall not exceed that of the passport.

Cheer up, it's not the end of the world.

looks like error. 10 years is a standard now but it all depends on IRCC.

maybe you should read the Original post visa will only be issued to the passport expiry date as in this case 14 months out

they can't issue you a visa valid for longer than the passport. You should have considered this and renewed your passport before applying. What you're saying doesn't make any sense, what would you do with a visa that is still valid after your passport expired? Peel it off and stick it into your new passport? It doesn't work that way.

To be fair, in the past (and still current for many other countries), you could use a valid visa on an expired passport along with a renewed passport to enter. But this rule has been modified and there is no reason for the OP to get all upset over.
