Hi all,

Just starting the sponsorship application process for my wife and child so this is probably going to be my first post of many...

I'm a Canadian citizen but am applying from the UK. I see that I may not be eligible to sponsor if I receive social assistance for a reason other than disability - does this only refer to Canadian social assistance programmes?

We get UK child benefit, which is something all parents of under-18s get in the UK and is a pretty small amount (£20/week). Would be great to know if this might stand in the way of our application.

Thanks very much
Henry

This refers to Canadian social assistance.

Since it sounds like you are living outside of Canada, you'll need to include evidence with your application to show you plan to relocate to Canada once your spouse's PR visa is approved.

Thank you so much for the replies! Yep we're asking two family members who live in BC to write us letters saying we can stay with them while we look for housing - do you think that will be sufficient as evidence that we're actually moving there? I also know a recruitment consultant there who I'm planning to ask for help finding work if/when our application is approved, so may include a letter from them too
