Reason for absence

I left the country after 5 days from landing, to return back after about 1.5 yrs. obviously i was not ready yet, and needed time to return back for good. Consequently, I will have 1 year of absence to start with in the 4 yr period listed in residence calculator.

What do I write as reason in residence calculator for absence?

Appreciate advise - am sure there will be few others in similar circumstances.

Would this be a reason for RQ - "A6 - Absences to home country to sell land/property or to take care of ill family member during the relevant 4 year period."?

Whats the problem with RQ; if you get it, answer it and, if there nothing wrong, it will only slightly delay the application.
I'd write for the reason - "Return to home country for personal reasons"

-Best to use family- they don't trouble you much if its family related
- Your time outside Canada should be alot - for eg outside Canada for 3 days... Canada take 6 days instead so its not counted day by day.

Under similar circumstances I had written that we as a family returned to the country we moved from to wrap up in readiness to move to Canada. That's what I wrote in my PR renewal application as well.

I think it's understood that kids maybe studying, you'll have to provide notice to your employer, sell property and tie up loose ends. For all of which, you need time. Not everybody can move right away.

As long as you meet the PR obligations as well as required residency for citizenship I doubt if you'll be questioned about the reason behind your long term absence in the initial years.

One can never be sure about the reason an RQ is issued, so there's no point in conjecture. Let's just hope for the best.

I had the similar case, i moved after 1.5 years later when i found job in canada. And i mentioned same that was working outside canada and looking for job, once found moved here and have been here since then except for few vacations to Home country and US.

I don't think absence during initial years is an issue, if u r out at end of ur term raises more concerns.
