Hi everyone!
Recently, DHL lost certified true copies of my passport and Pakistani citizenship card and they have been unable to find the package. Luckily, I still have both the original passport and my identity card. I don't want to risk identity theft and ruin my chances of applying for PR in the next few months, so I'm thinking of getting a new passport and ID card.
My question is regarding the fact that my 3 year post-grad work permit is tied to my current passport whose integrity may have been compromised. If I get a new passport, I would obviously need to reapply for an updated work permit. The issue is, my old passport expired in 2011, one and a half years after the initial PGWP was issued, so I applied again at the end of the 2011 with my current passport, and the validity of the new PGWP was for an additional one and a half years. I've already applied twice, at this point, as a result.
If I apply once again (i.e. a 3rd time), stating that my passport may have been compromised, can you foresee any potential issues that may arise? My concern is that because my work permit is tied to my current passport, as soon as my new passport is issued, the old one becomes invalid, so by association, I assume my current PGWP becomes invalid too? I'm currently employed full-time, so if I'm working with invalid work permit, then that's obviously bad news for both my employer and me. Would implied status come into play?
Any feedback would be much appreciated!
