Hi all,
I might be in the position of considering some opportunities of job from canada, but I'm not exactly sure how to compare then real salary.
I will be inventing numbers just to give an example:

Assuming net in my poket monthly: 1.750 € (it is actually 1.500€ x14months/12 months. In Italy you get double income 2 times a year).
This Include: Net Salary+Public Healthcare+Retirement saving+(1month income for each working year when you leave your current job).
My company grant me also some private healthcare (wich is not so necessary in Italy). These are exactly 2.658 $ net.

Let's say I have an offer of 50.000 $
Tax First 44.000 $ is 15% off. Rest 6.000 22% $. So Approximately 8k$ tax. So 50k-8k = 42k$ net
Lets divide /12 = here you have 3.500 $ net monthly
Than you have to take off Healthcare (assuming is not included into your contract). Is it 120$ monthly ? Here we are 3.500-120 = 3.380 $
Now where's my retirement ? Is it included ? Is it extra ? Do I have to pay it myself ?
I know my company pay my retirement approximately 300€ months (455$).
So... lets assume I want to compare the 2 things: 3.380 $ - 455$ = 2.935 $ (if healthare is inclued I will reapply those 120$ = 3.055$)

So , I know there might be aproximation and mistake but can we assume that a 50.000 $ gross salary is - at the very end - a little more money in your poket than an Italian monthly of 1.750 € ?

any help appreciated.

thanks in advance

I have no idea about incomes in Italy. So i cannot compare.

Some useful things.

Median salary in Canada is around 46k (before taxes).

And it is not uncommon for people to be paying 1/3rd of take home salary in rents.

Healthcare, Pension plan and other regular deductions on salary (other than primary provincial and federal tax) amounts to be 200 CAD or so.

Grocery for a month for a family of say 4 (would range between 500-1000) depending upon your standard of living. A good cell phone plan would cost 50 CAD. Home cable + internet another 100. A monthly bus pass might be around 100 CAD (only in places where bus network is good and cheap such as Montreal).

If you lease a car it would range between (200 to 400+) a month (say basic corolla to accord). Car insurance for new drivers in Ontario might rise up to 400-500 in the first year where as that in Quebec would be cheaper like 120-140 max. But quebec has higher taxes, Ontario has lower. So that kind of evens out.

Accommodation is expensive in say Toronto. Hard to find any thing under 1k CAD.

It is difficult to give more back ground without knowing what it buys you in Italy - but in general 50k is just an average class living. However, this comes from some one who has never lived average class and belonging to a bit better paid profession. So may be i am not that optimistic.

For a single individual living, 12-1300 CAD a month is enough. Students live in that pretty comfortably. But this is often with shared accommodation.

For a family of say 4 people or so, even 3k is just okay, not really good i would say.
