I haven't had any movement on my sponsorship application so I called CIC to find out what was going on. Since I had missed a signature on 1 form I had to re do that form. At that time my application received a new file #. My new file # also starts with XF. I was told that the X means the file was received but is not being revued yet. So when I go to the "check application status" web site it just comes up in red letters telling me there is insufficient information.
My question is... when do I get a file # that works in the "check application status" site?

you have a temporary file number. as you know, they are not recognized by ecas.

if you applied outland, then most likely you will not receive your real file number until AOR or possibly even SA. for most outland applicants, it is not possible to sign into ecas until AFTER the sponsor has received approval. ECAS really isn't a source to find out what is going on with your file. generally, people already know of updates before any changes are made in ECAS. at this point, all that can be done is to remain patient.
