re-entry stamp info

Hi, my wife is visiting Canada from Nigeria with a multiple entry visa valid for 3years. Of which she can obviously stay only for 6 months at a time. My question is.... can she just visit the U.S and get a re-stamp for another 6 months upon return to Canada? To avoid the hassle of flying for over 20hrs back to Nigeria and coming back, all in the name of leaving the country after 6 months!

P.S Am a canadian citizen.

Why not just apply for an extension through Vegreville about 30 days before her visitor status expires?
