Re-entering from US while waiting for work permit

I'm currently awaiting a response for a new work permit (last one expired). In the meantime, I received an interim authorization to work so I am allowed to work for now. I wonder if while my work permit is being processed I can go by land to the US. Would I still be able to work when I come back? Which documents do I need to re-enter, just TRV or also work permit?
