Folks,
Can the principal applicant re-enter Canada while he's waiting for the PR card in the mail ? (assuming he's landed initially and returned back to home country.)

Thanks in advance !

Yes, some people have asked about this as they landed and have been told that they can use their landing papers to re-enter. Customs guards may ask you why you were in such a hurry to leave the first time but they will let you back in.

But if the OP is from a non visa exempt country, it is unlikely that the airline will board him/her without a PR card or Permanent Resident travel document.

Hi

Would the travel document be relevant in such cases ?

Has anybody used this earlier ?

Yes, you can apply for a travel document. It's best to ask about this when you land.

Hi,

I entered Canada in July 22, 2006 as a clergyman and was granted work permit ever since. My work permit ended July 19, 2009, but I left Canada for the Philippines last July 8, 2009 for a short mission trip under our church (Filipino Alliance Church of Toronto of the C&MA). I did not apply for a re-entry visa thinking that all I need is a work permit to show upon entering Canada. I was supposed to fly back to Canada last July 27, 2009 but was denied by JAL for reason that I did not have the re-entry visa to show in my passport. I have applied for renewal of work permit last April 25, 2009 but did not receive the approval before I left Canada. I have a multiple visa that already expired as of May 19, 2009. Can I apply for a multiple visa or just wait for the release of my work permit? But would this allow me to enter back Canada? What do I need to do to expedite my re-entry? My wife and son is still in Canada as of this writing. I am now in Manila, Philippines waiting for advice.

It's best to apply for a multiple entry visa the same duration as your work permit so you can go back and forth as you like. Getting a work permit should give you one entry.

A work permit gives him no entries, he is required to apply for a TRV at the same time.
