Hi everyone,
Inquiring on behalf of a friend and hoping that someone here can shed some light on this issue.
Student "A" has a counterfoil in her passport permitting her multiple-entry into Canada as a student. This expired on October 1st 2019. In the meantime she has successfully applied to extend her study permit until June 2020, but does not have anything in her passport to reflect this (i.e. a new counterfoil). She simply has the new paper permit.
She is returning to Russia to visit her family for the winter holidays, coming back to Canada January 19, 2020. I have been advised by the CBSA that she simply needs to take her new, extended study permit to the Canadian consulate in Moscow who will then place a new, updated counterfoil into her passport reflecting her current status as a student. They said that she doesn't need to apply for anything online through the CIC website.
It was my impression after speaking to a colleague however that she would need to apply online for a new TRV to permit her re-entry into the country, and so now I am confused as to which is the proper route. I would appreciate if you would be kind enough to offer some guidance on the matter.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
