Re-Enter Canada with Work Permit but Entry Visa expired

Hi All,

I have a valid work permit but the entry visa has expired. I have a short trip to Mexico soon. I am worried about not being able to come back if i dont have a valid entry visa. I dont have a visa-exempt passport. I have called CIC and was told that I'd better to have both docs ready. However, the CIC officer also said if I could not have both docs at the time, I would need to explain my situation to the CBSA officer and there might be a chance that s/he might let me in. Just wondering if anybody has done this before: come back to Canada successfully only with a work permit. Or this will just be a black-white deal: no entry visa/WP, no entry to Canada?

Hi

The airline won't allow you to board the plane in Mexico without a valid TRV.

Agreed with the above. It's black and white. No valid TRV = airline won't let you board the plane to Canada.
