Dozens of employees at Canada’s largest bank are losing their jobs to temporary foreign workers, who are in Canada to take over the work of their department.

Canadians blast RBC following 'outrageous' staff dismissal
“They are being brought in from India, and I am wondering how they got work visas,” said Dave Moreau, one of the employees affected by the move. “The new people are in our offices and we are training them to do our jobs. That adds insult to injury.”

I'm surprised that this topic isn't commented on more. I don't think that this story has reached international attention, but in Canada it is has brought up a lot of issues and feelings regarding this program and RBC itself.

CBC did an interview with former employees from this outsourcing firm, iGate. It is shocking and downright horrible to hear that employees are being treated this way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqICiawWF-A&feature=youtu.be

As for the temporary work program, I'm sure it has its merits, but I do think that it has the great potential to be abused (like the current RBC case). I can anticipate that the government will be taking a closer look at what the companies are doing with temporary workers and the program's impact on Canadian residents and citizens trying to find work.

This incident coupled with last year's flap with litigation by Unions in BC (HD Mining) against the bringing in of TFWs in the Tumbler Ridge project has led to more calls for scrutiny/and possible overhaul of the TFW program.

You can say the RBC incident was the tipping point.

Hi, i was going through ur post and found that u wrote a letter to MP. Just curious after how many days u got passport request from the day MP contacted CIC office. I am not implying that u got PR bcas of MP intervention. I am just curious as i am planning to contact MP and want to know whether it will trigger anything on my file.

This is OT but I will answer - I wrote a letter to the MP not for my PR application, but during my restoration for a WP. Two different things two different applications. At that time of restoration, the processing times kept changing week after week and we cannot get any clear indication when the WP was to be completed - so upon advise of our immigration consultant in my place of work, we wrote to the MP.

Kindly, in deference to the OP, please send your queries on the appropriate threads or PM me.

/all the best...
