Hi,

I have a friend with a very rare situation. She and her children have Canadian citizenship with their original citizenship from X country, it is normal. but her husband has a Canadian PR with his original citizenship from X country. Now her husband has a chance to gain a citizenship from another country Y and he will lose his original one from X. The question is, what is his Canadian PR status, it will be canceled or he will keep it?

Anybody has any idea?

Thank you in advanced

It's not a rare situation at all.

His PR status has nothing to do with where he has citizenship. He will be a PR afterwards just like he was a PR before. His citizenship change has nothing to do with his PR status in Canada.

Thank you scylla for your fast response.

But when they came to Canada as an immigrants, his passport is from X country and when he renewed the PR 4 months ago, he send them his X passport which he will lose it. His information in Canadian government is about his X nationality and passport!!!!

The country Y does not accept dual citizenship, they will ask the X country to cancel the husband's citizenship and passport

He should take copies of the old passport before he gives it up. Next time he enters Canada, he can inform them about the situation and show the copies of the old passport as well as the new passport.
