Hi all,

my boyfriend/common-law is going to sponsor me. I just started to fill out all the forms my first question:

Application to sponsor and undertaking. Question 3, is there a co-signer (must be the common law) so it will be me, but at the part were I have to put all my infos in they ask for my status and all the options are citizien or permanent resident. Do I have to ignore this part/say no, because of Iam the person he is going to sponsor?

Second we have a son, born this August. Do I have to fill the dependent form out for himor not because he is canadien citizen?

I dont want to screw things up. Sorry in case my questions are kind of stupid.

Thanks in advance

Hi

1. You need to be going through the guide as you fill out the forms. Your question is very clearly explained. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp

Question 3

Check one box to indicate if you have a co-signer or not.

Only your spouse or common-law partner can co-sign this application.

Note: If you are sponsoring your spouse or common-law partner, you cannot have a co-signer.

2. No, he is not considered a dependent for this application. He will need to be listed on IMM5481 and IMM5406.

It looks like the OP's son doesn't need to be listed on IMM 5481, coz the heading states "number of family members and persons included in undertakings in effect and not yet in effect", OP's sponsor has no undertaking on their son.

Ines86: You are not the co-signer.

Please actually read all of the questions in the form before you comment, not just the heading.

Question 6B: Every other family member not included above and dependent on you (or the co-signer, if you have one) financially, whether they are living with you or not. Enter their number in the box on the right and provide details on the back of this page.

OP's son is a financial dependent of the sponsor and therefore MUST be included in that count and MUST be listed on the second page.

I think canuck_in_uk is right, OP's son needs to be listed on IMM 5481, which means I screwed up my application on this, lol

Exception will be if OP's son is not financially dependent on her boyfriend.

I was confused on this question when I did mine, well....I hope CIC think it's a minor mistake and won't return my application.

The only way that a principal applicant's minor child wouldn't be considered a financial dependent of the sponsor is if the child was not biologically the sponsor's. If that were the case, the child would not be Canadian and would therefore be included as a dependent of the principal applicant also being sponsored and counted in Question 5A.

If you've only just applied, it may be returned, they may simply request that you redo the form or they may not notice. You could always fill out the form again and send it in with a letter of explanation.

I sent my application about two weeks ago, and still waiting for stage 1. If I send the correct form now without a file number or UCI, will CIC be not able to have a reference to my application?

Yup. Don't send them anything without a UCI number, it will never get matched up to your application.

I sent something to Mississauga without a UCI and it was matched up with my app just fine. I just included a letter with the name, address and DOB of both the sponsor and the applicant.
