Hi Everyone,

I'm preparing my Citizenship application and I have a some questions. I am at present a Ph.D. candidate in Canada and worked as a teaching assistant at the university. Now my question is: Should I fill-in the table in the application with my work history and include another one for my study as a graduate student? Or write TA/PhD student under WORK/EDUCATION like this:

2012-09 to 2013-04 TA/PhD student
2013-05 to 2013-08 PhD student
2013-09 to 204-04 TA/PhD student

I cannot write teaching assistant/PhD student as the space provided is not enough.

Also, my wife is a homemaker, never worked before, and at the moment registered in the LINC home study programm for one lesson a week. I'm a bit confused about her as well.

Any help will be highly appreciated,

For you, the second option is the correct one as for wife just put homemaker. If you don't have enough space use an excel sheet and write on the form 6.F SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENT.

Thanks Goldline, but is writing TA acceptable? Also, for my wife, i'm using her certificate from LINC program for language proof. Don't you think if I don't include her study in the section will be considered missing info.? Can write LINC/Homemaker under Work/Education?

I filled out separately, one for work and one for study, e.g., 2008-09 to 2012-09 PhD Student and 2009-01 to 2012-12 Work as TA/GA (they know what that means). Actually I followed the same way a few friends of mine reported their history; they got their citizenship of course. So that must work (hopefully).

CIC knows that as a full-time graduate student (particularly PhDs) you would do part-time TA/GA and RA jobs and doesn't care if you had active contract in particular semester and didn't have in another (that's the nature of part-time work and full-time study). So you don't have to split your TA work history, as long as you have kept your pay stubs and paid taxes during that year.

Thank you BobyM. So, it is safe to use the table in the application for Study history and attach another for work?

Why another table? They won't fit in one? If not you may try the other format: PhD student/Work as TA (make sure you write "work as" because TA/PhD seems like something to do with your degree and might be unclear to them). I personally don't like attaching extra sheets to an application. If you had to attach another sheet though, make sure you sign it.

OK! so by "separately" ,you meant in the same table. Got it. Do you have any suggestion regarding my wife's?

Sorry. Yes, I wrote them separately but in the same table. Not really, I'm not sure about your wife's.

@Sharif 1, I completely agree with BobyM and I did the same as I was a PhD student myself.

Regarding your wife, she can put house wife in the 6F section. She will however need to show her language proficiency.

Thank you for the input. That's why I asked. She attended the LINC program and achieved level 5. She received the certificate already and I'm going to use this as language proficiency. The question is, is it appropriate to put LINC student in the table although she only takes one lecture a week?

Please see the note. What I have seen in past it is better to take CELPIP.

Please see the following:

Note: You must have successfully finished a secondary or post-secondary program in English or French. A single course done in English or French does not meet the requirement. The diploma, certificate or transcript should be in English or French. It should clearly show that the program was completed with English or French as the language of instruction.

Yes, I'm aware of this but there is also the option of completing clb/nclc level 4 which she did.
