Hi everyone! Have a quick question for anybody who could be of help:

1. If I'm working remotely from within Canada, as an independent contractor for a US-based company, and when required, I pay the due taxes on my salary, will all of this be sufficient for me to be eligible for CEC?

This will be classified as foreign work experience, not Canadian work experience.

So the short answer to your question is unfortunately no.

As mentioned above, it would be counted as foreign work experience. Not only that but IRCC does not consider an independent contractor (even if it is Canada) to be counted towards this work experience.

Applicants under the CEC must satisfy a CIC officer that they meet all program requirements [R87.1]. Any period of self-employment shall not be included in calculating the period of qualifying work experience under the CEC [R87.1(3)(b)]. As such, the CEC requires that applicants demonstrate they acquired skilled work experience in Canada through authorized employment by a third party.
